Professor Vimal Karani is a Professor in Nutrigenetics & Nutrigenomics and the Deputy Director of Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health at the University of Reading, UK. He joined the University of Reading after his post-doctoral training at the MRC Epidemiology unit (Cambridge, UK) and University College London (London, UK). He has also received advanced training in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London, UK.
Professor Vimal Karani has published extensively in areas related to nutrigenetics and non-communicable diseases and presently has more than 80 peer reviewed publications (including those in premier biomedical journals: Nature Genetics, Lancet, BMJ, PLoS Medicine and PLoS Genetics) and book chapters. He has received significant global media attention for his work on nutrition, lifestyle and cardiometabolic diseases. He has received funds as a PI and Co-I from various funding bodies and, in the last seven years, the grants that he has been associated with are of the value ~£3 million. He won the UK Nutrition Society’s Silver Medal award for the year 2020 for his contribution to the world of global nutrition.

Director General Ministry of Health IndonesiaAbdul Kadir is the Director General for the Directorate General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. The Directorate General of Health Services (Ditjen Yankes) has the task of carrying out the formulation and implementation of policies in the field of health services in accordance with the provisions of the legislation. To carry out this task, the Directorate General of Health and Health has several functions such as formulating, implementing, compiling norms, standards, procedures, and criteria, providing technical guidance and supervision, carrying out evaluations and reporting in the field of improving services, facilities and quality of primary health services, referrals, traditional and complementary.
Abdul Kadir received his education from several universities in Indonesia. He first earned a degree in medicine and continued to complete his General Practitioner education program. After graduation, he enrolled in the Specialist Residency Program in the field of Ear, Nose, Throat, Head, and Neck (Otolaryngology) which is a branch of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases around the ear, nose, throat, and head and neck. He then obtained his master’s degree from the Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia where he majored in Administration/Management of Hospitals and Health Facilities.
Prior to becoming the Director General for the Directorate General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health, he was appointed as Professor for the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University in April 2009. He is also the President Director of the Dr. Central General Hospital (RSUP). Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar in 2015 before being promoted to Director General for the Directorate General of Health Services in December 2020. Now he also serves as President Commissioner of PT. Kimia Farma since April 2021 until now.
